Sun Square consists of four similar elegantly designed buildings with large vertical elements and a minimalist aesthetic. The industrial building’s lack of architectural embellishment inspires modern spaces that have clean vertical and horizontal lines. The brick surface is provides a weathered appearance. The project incorporates large fenestration with industrial window systems and high ceilings, all elements typical in modern industrial buildings. The balcony railing utilizes steel angle iron and stainless steel cables all are within the modern industrial vocabulary.
Project Description
A Bright Future (total project: 7,400 Sq. Ft.)
A Bright Future Inc. is a private corporation headquartered in American Canyon. It provides independent living education services to adults with intellectual disabilities throughout Northern California. There are three training facility locations: American Canyon (Phase 2 of Sun Square), Albany, and Sacramento.
Sun Square includes four buildings of equal size on a one-acre site. The CBC is requiring the connections of Buildings A to B and C to B. The buildings (wings) will visually appear to be individual buildings, referred to as wings, but in actuality will be connected. A & B will be connected by an extension of the lunch room and C & D connected by a doorway.
A Bright Future Inc. will occupy the ground floor in all four buildings (wings). There are a total of 18 one-bedroom apartments integrated into the project, with five apartments in buildings (wings) A & D, and four apartments with one ADA-adaptable apartment in wings B & C. Buildings (wings) A & D have an ADA one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor and four one-bedroom apartments on the second floor.
Sun Square will be built in two phases:
Phase 1 (one building) 1. Five one-bedroom apartments, consisting of one ADA apartment on the first floor and four apartments on the second floor. 2. Main Office for A Bright Future, Inc. (1,850 sq. ft.) a. Lobby accommodating 15 People i. One unisex ADA restroom ii. Office for receptionist b. Executive Director’s Office c. IT room, accommodating one person (100sq ft.) d. Master Storage (100sq ft.) e. HR Office accommodating two people, open office plan f. Financial Office accommodating two people, open office plan 3. All site work will occur in this phase: sidewalks, utilities, partial landscaping and parking: 39 spaces (2 ADA+ 35 standard and 2 compact) designated by City as shared parking.
Phase 2 (three buildings) 4. 13 one-bedroom apartments: one ADA apartment on the first floor of Building D and four apartments on the second floor in each building 5. Local Office (1,850 Sq.
