Howland House
Timber Cove, California

This home seems ready to soar as it perches on a hilltop in the North Coast redwoods. It has 24-foot high windows and all-weather patios  overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Two large roof planes are connected by a continuous central skylight running the entire length of the structure. Heated and cooled by a passive solar system, the house is supported by rammed earth walls and topped by a roof structure of recycled redwood.
